Tucker Carlson Cuts Short Grilling of Anti-NRA, Ex-Cop Candidate: ‘Interview Over!’ (Video)

Tucker Carlson got nasty Wednesday evening with Pat Davis, a former cop and tough critic of the NRA. Things got so ugly that the Fox News host shut the interview down early.

“Interview over! Yeah because you don’t know what you’re talking about!” shrieked Carlson, before cutting off Davis, who is running for Congress as a Democrat in New Mexico’s first congressional district.

The spat began with Carlson griping over an ad Davis was running saying “f– the NRA,” but devolved into a debate about how many rounds an AR-15 could feasibly fire within 15 seconds. Davis, in another ad which Carlson played, asserted that the weapon could unload 150 bullets in 15 seconds.

*Also Read:* Tucker Carlson Exposes Aggressive Sex-Crazed Pandas: 'Secret Stud With a Taste for Flesh' (Video)

“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” Carlson said to Davis. “No AR-15 can fire 150 rounds in 15 seconds! That’s untrue, and if you believe it is true, then you are not qualified to have a conversation about guns. People are laughing at you because you are ignorant. You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Davis asserted that an AR-15 with modifications like the one used in the Las Vegas massacre last year would be capable of producing the fusillade.

“Exactly like the magazines that Las Vegas police officers pulled out of that hotel room,” said Davis. “We take exactly the word of the police officers in Las Vegas who I trust who ran into that room to save people down below and found a weapon modified with bump stocks.”

6 recently canceled TV shows that Netflix should save, including 'The Expanse' and 'Great News'

6 recently canceled TV shows that Netflix should save, including 'The Expanse' and 'Great News' In the past week, networks canceled dozens of TV shows.

And some cancellations were quite shocking, like Fox's decision to cut "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," a comedy that has such a devoted cult following that NBC saved it 31 hours later.

But not all canceled shows have been so lucky — so far.

But there's still hope. Netflix has saved shows in the past, like AMC's "The Killing" and "Longmire." And Hulu is also no stranger to saving a Fox comedy: It brought "The Mindy Project" back for three additional seasons.

*Here, we selected a few shows that were just canceled by networks that Netflix could — or more accurately, should — bring back, and why.*

*SEE ALSO: The median audience age of the 10 biggest TV shows signals how few young people are tuning in*

-"Designated Survivor"— canceled by ABC-

"Designated Survivor" is much messier than you'd expect a straight-forward and short-lived political thriller to be. In its two-season run, the show had four different showrunners, and lost its female lead when Natascha McElhone left for a Hulu show. But it is kind of a good time, which might be why Netflix is reportedly looking at saving it with a third season (and a fifth showrunner). -"The Mick"— canceled by Fox-

"The Mick" is wild. Every episode takes things further than you can imagine for network TV, and it had the best physical comedy on TV, and one of the best child actors. If Netflix can't save "The Mick," it should at least give Jack Stanton, who played the youngest Pemberton, his own show. -"The Expanse"— canceled by SyFy-

Netflix has shown interest in sci-fi this with shows including "Altered Carbon" and "Lost in Space," and with movies like "Mute.""The Expanse" is one of the best sci-fi shows since "Battlestar Galactica," and it, at the very least, deserves to wrap things up with a short fourth and final season (or a movie). People are already campaigning for a streaming service like Netflix to save the show, and we hope they're listening.

Stephen Hawking's last book to be out in October

$

0
The final book by Stephen Hawking will be out in October and will cover his perspectives on everything from the creation of the universe, black holes, alien intelligence, and the existence of God to space colonisation and artificial intelligence.

The Stephen Hawking Estate announced today that rights to the final book by the world-famous theoretical physicist were sold to Nick Davies at John Murray (Hachette) for the UK and the Commonwealth including India; and to Bantam for North America.

"Brief Answers to the Big Questions" will be organised into four parts: Why Are We Here? Will We Survive? Will Technology Save Us or Destroy Us? How Can We Thrive? The book was in discussion at the time of Hawking's death in March, and his Estate decided to go forward with the project, which is a selection of his most profound, accessible, and timely reflections from his personal archive, the publishers said.

Daughter Lucy Hawking on behalf of the Estate said, "Communication was so important to our father in his lifetime and we see this book as part of his legacy, bringing together his thoughts, humour, theories and writing into one beautiful edition.

"We are very pleased to support 'Brief Answers to the Big Questions' and happy to have the opportunity to finalise a project our father loved." According to Hawking's agent Robert Kirby, the idea for the book rose out of the thousands of requests Hawking received from people for answers to some big questions of our time.

"With his characteristic wit and brilliant mind, he began writing and collating his responses and I'm delighted his Estate has agreed to support publication of the last book he was working on before he died," he said.

Nick Davies, managing director of John Murray Press said Hawking did more in his lifetime to deepen our understanding of gravity, space and time than anyone since Einstein.

Thomas Abraham, managing director of Hachette India said, "We are delighted that we will be publishing Hawking's last work in India, particularly in the year of our two big anniversaries - our tenth year and John Murray's 250th year." Hawking, who is known for his work in cosmology and theoretical physics, notably for Hawking radiation and his work on black holes, was the director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology and Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.

At the age of 20, he was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease) and was given two years to live. His abilities to move and communicate were increasingly limited, as he was confined to a wheelchair and eventually forced to speak through a voice synthesiser.

When he died in March, at the age of 76, he was the longest living MND survivor. His battle with the disease was featured in the film "The Theory of Everything" for which actor Eddie Redmayne, who played Hawking, received 2015's Best Actor Oscar.

Hawking was the author of "A Brief History of Time", which has sold over 13 million copies worldwide and shot back to the top of bestseller lists after his death, and many other books.

A percentage of the royalties of the new book will go to the Motor Neuron Disease Association and the Stephen Hawking Foundation.

Gambia: Ex-President Tied To 2005 Murders Of Ghanaian And Nigerian Migrants, Says HRW

A paramilitary unit controlled by then-Gambian president Yahya Jammeh summarily executed more than 50 Ghanaian, Nigerian, and other West African migrants in July 2005, Human Rights Watch and TRIAL International said.

Interviews with 30 former Gambian officials, including 11 officers directly involved in the incident, reveal that the migrants, who were bound for Europe but were suspected of being mercenaries intent on overthrowing Jammeh, were murdered after having been detained by Jammeh’s closest deputies in the army, navy, and police forces. The witnesses identified the “Junglers,” a notorious unit that took its orders directly from Jammeh, as those who carried out the killings.

“The West African migrants weren’t murdered by rogue elements, but by a paramilitary death squad taking orders from President Jammeh,” said Reed Brody, counsel at Human Rights Watch. “Jammeh’s subordinates then destroyed key evidence to prevent international investigators from learning the truth.”

Martin Kyere, the sole known Ghanaian survivor; the families of the disappeared; the family of Saul N’dow, another Ghanaian killed under Jammeh; and Ghanaian human rights organizations on May 16, 2018, called on the Ghanaian government to investigate the new evidence and potentially seek Jammeh’s extradition and prosecution in Ghana.

Jammeh’s 22-year rule was marked by widespread abuses, including forced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and arbitrary detention. He sought exile in Equatorial Guinea in January 2017 after losing the December 2016 presidential election to Adama Barrow.

The insiders interviewed by TRIAL International and Human Rights Watch include some of the highest-ranking security commanders in the Gambian government at the time, as well as several officials present at the arrest, detention, and transfer of the migrants, a Jungler who witnessed the killings, and two who participated in a subsequent cover-up. Another Jungler who witnessed the killings was interviewed on the radio.

They said that the migrants – including some 44 Ghanaians and several Nigerians – were arrested in July 2005 at a beach where they had landed, then transferred to the Gambian Naval Headquarters in Banjul, the capital. They were detained there in the presence of the inspector general of police, the director general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the chief of the defense staff, and the commander of the National Guards. At least two of them were in telephone contact with Jammeh during the operation. The head and several members of the paramilitary Junglers were also there.

The officials divided the migrants into groups and then turned them over to the Junglers. Over one week, the Junglers summarily executed them near Banjul and along the Senegal-Gambia border near Jammeh’s hometown of Kanilai.

Kyere was detained in a Banjul police station, then driven into the forest. In February 2018, he explained to Human Rights Watch and TRIAL International how he escaped, just before other migrants were apparently killed.

“We were in the back of a pickup truck,” he said. “One man complained that the wires binding us were too tight and a soldier with a cutlass sliced him on the shoulder, cutting his arm, which bled profusely. It was then that I thought, ‘We’re going to die.’ But as the truck went deeper into the forest, I was able to get my hands free. I jumped out from the pickup and started to run into the forest. The soldiers shot toward me but I was able to hide. I then heard shots from the pickup and the cry, in Twi [Ghanaian language], ‘God save us!’”

Kyere helped the Ghanaian authorities identify many of the dead and travelled around Ghana to locate their families and promote efforts to seek justice.

Despite measures in ensuing years by Ghana as well as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations (UN) to investigate the case, no arrests have ever been made.

The Bulletin of the UN Department of Public Affairs said that an ECOWAS/UN report, never made public, concluded that the Gambian government was not “directly or indirectly complicit” in the deaths and disappearances but rather that “rogue elements” in Gambia’s security services “acting on their own” were probably responsible.

The new evidence makes clear, however, that those responsible for the killings were the Junglers, who were not rogue elements, but a disciplined unit operating under Jammeh.

In October 2017, Gambian and international rights groups, including Human Rights Watch, and TRIAL International, launched the “Campaign to Bring Yahya Jammeh and his Accomplices to Justice” (#Jammeh2Justice), which calls for prosecuting Jammeh and others who bear the greatest responsibility for his government’s crimes under international fair trial standards.

President Barrow of The Gambia has suggested that he would seek Jammeh’s extradition from Equatorial Guinea if his prosecution was recommended by the country’s Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission, which is expected to begin work in the next few months with an initial two-year mandate. The government and international activists and academics have said that the political, institutional and security conditions do not yet exist in The Gambia for a fair trial of Yahya Jammeh which would contribute to Gambia’s stability.

President Teodoro Obiang of Equatorial Guinea said in January that he would “analyze [any extradition request] with [his] lawyers.” A week later, however, he said “we have to protect him [Jammeh], we have to respect him as a former African head of state, because that is what is going to ensure that the other heads of state of Africa who have to leave power do not fear for subsequent harassment.”

Ghanaian groups noted that the UN Convention against Torture, which Equatorial Guinea has ratified, requires a country in whose territory a torture suspect is found to refer the case for investigation or extradite that person.

“Our investigation has enabled us to get closer to the truth about this horrible massacre,” said Benedict De Moerloose, head of Criminal Law and Investigations for TRIAL International. “The time has now come to deliver justice for the victims and their families.” Reported by Eurasia Review 12 hours ago.

The Decency Of Violence: Massacre In Gaza – OpEd

It has the makings of another Intifada: appalling timing in terms of commemoration (the founding of the state of Israel; the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem in all-Trumpistan affair); popular protest with all its untidy trimmings; then a massacre clinically inflicted by forces with superior fire power.

On Monday, the use of force by Israeli forces supposedly designed to quell riots and prevent an incursion by Palestinians from Gaza initially resulted in 58 deaths. The numbers duly grew, and it did not take long for a packaged, ribboned narrative to appear.

For one thing, who were the dead? Hamas official Salah Al-Bardawil offered a morsel to the Israeli forces by telling the Palestinian Baladna news outlet that of the 62 who perished over Monday and Tuesday, “fifty of the martyrs were Hamas and 12 from the people.” This made the moral computation for the Times of Israel simple: the bulk of deaths were “known members of terror groups”.

The Israel Defence Forces, in an attempt at wholesale unmasking, were quick to release selected footage of the interview with Al-Bardawil turning his words against him and emptying them of moral suasion: “Hamas official, Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil,” came one tweet “is clear about terrorist involvement in the riots.”

Since then, the IDF has been busy constructing an oasis of certitude with one central point: Hamas did it, and the deaths were less from Israel’s weapons than Hamas’ remorseless calculation, much of it centred on attempts to breach the fence in the northern Gaza strip. “Hamas,” went another statement, “is solely responsible for the events transpiring in and out of Gaza, and is accountable for all terrorist activity emanating from Gaza targeting Israeli civilians and Israeli sovereignty.”

Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman was even more colourful in his description of these barbarians at the border. The leaders of Hamas were “a bunch of cannibals who also treat their own children as ammunition”.

The Israeli position, stated by Danny Danon as UN envoy, is to refocus attention on Hamas as wicked instigator and hostage taker. Israel thereby becomes legitimate defender, a force of security facing agents of a barbarian project led by Lieberman’s cannibals. “They incite people to violence, place as many civilians as possible in the line of fire to maximise civilian casualties, then they blame Israel and come to the UN to complain. It is a deadly game they play at the expense of innocent children.”

Positions are stated as absolutes, with compromise being seen as an enemy of promise. Terminology here is everything: a “right of return” is turned on its head as redemptive cause and a righting of wrongs that could only mean the destruction of the Jewish state. Danon, again, emphasises these extremes with ideological certitude: “When [Hamas] say day of rage they mean day of terrorism; right of return means the destruction of Israel; peaceful protest means incitement and violence.”

Violence, restraint, calm – all variables of relative worth where cruelty and brutality reign, and where humanitarian shocks sanctioned by Israel and Egypt function with ritual consistency. Gaza is a picture of enforced debility; options to behave decently are not to be found. But this is not a context that finds its way into assessments of IDF conduct. To the US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, Israel was a paragon of propriety, its operations on Monday and Tuesday compelling. “No country in this chamber could act with more restraint than Israel has.”

Those outside the traditional US-Israel compass resort to the desk clerk’s alternative, a clip-board response with pen at the ready. Establish, goes this line of thinking, a committee, an investigation, an inquiry with findings that are bound to be shelved and ignored, redundancies even before the first question is asked.

UK ambassador to the UN Karen Pierce took issue with the ammunition being used. “The volume of live fire used in Gaza [on Monday] and the consequent number of deaths is distressing and cannot be ignored by the council”.

Activists are considering how to bolster the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign, though the recent massacre is bound to provide ample grist. The Palestinian Liberation Organisation’s Mustafa Barghouti used Monday’s violence to tell the BBC’s Newshour that BDS and popular nonviolent resistance are by far “the best two instruments to force Israel to change its policies.”

On one level this is unsurprising: Palestinian leaders, wrangling, divided and weak, have had to rely on other high profile movements to do their work. BDS has certainly developed enough momentum to draw calls from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to deem the movement anti-Semitic. “The boycotters,” he claimed in justification to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee in 2014, “should be boycotted.”

Central to the denunciation of Palestinian protest, and specifically Hamas in its violent visage, is the notion that such behaviour is not only futile but indecent. Stay at home, simper and whimper; forget the realm of the political, the value of the activist enraged by historical wrongs. That the catastrophe – the annual nightmare or revisitation known as the Nakba – be a point of reminder drives Israel’s forces to further insist upon acceptance and subjugation.

To dare counter such forces of suffocation is to not abide by a fictional code of etiquette that never took root in those blood soaked soils. As long as this is sold to powerful sponsors, Israel will remain condemned in some circles but praised in others as survivor and defender. The Palestinians will simply be the remaindered peoples of a cause sliding into amnesiac sunset, steered by leaders of very mixed blessings buttressed by token support.
